We have just opened a new crag that is mainly for beginner's, the climbing here is top roping and we use this to introduce people to the exciting world of rock climbing. Most people think of the Algarve as hot sunny beaches and surfing, well that's mainly true, but we also boast some of the best rock in Europe, from sport climbing, to deep water soloing, bouldering and adventure.
Rocha da Pena is a long ridge of some 2-3km with 20 different buttresses with grades from3b-8a.The limestone is varied, and includes the typical Spanish red rock and smaller pockets like finale and boux with large cracks.
The ridge faces south so gets plenty of sun which make it a great winter spot, summer time gets the full blast of the sun so early mornings and afternoon offer shaded areas with pleasant breezes.
There are many other areas to climb (depending on your level) cliffs of Sagres 6 hundred routes, deep water soloing, and a few areas not in any books so its well worth a trip, we even creep over the boarder into Spain. This site offers everything thing from on line topos to one to guiding, to even just finding a belay buddy for the week, check out out rates for one on one and group bookings. |
